The Water Desalination Technology Research Station at the College of Engineering in Rabigh, King Abdulaziz University, has entered a new operational phase following the completion of its technical setup, in a step aimed at supporting applied research and developing national talent in one of the sectors most closely linked to the Kingdom’s future of water sustainability.
Wadi Jeddah Company announced the completion of the station’s preparation works as part of King Abdulaziz University’s efforts to strengthen the research and innovation ecosystem and enhance research infrastructure supporting engineering applications and advanced technologies in the water desalination sector.
As part of the current phase, oversight of the station has been transferred to the College of Engineering in Rabigh, where the college administration has undertaken the final stages of rehabilitation and preparation to ensure integration between educational, training, and research functions, while maximizing the utilization of the station’s advanced technical capabilities within a specialized academic and applied environment.
The project is being implemented in collaboration with Kandasa Water Services, under a partnership aimed at supporting applied research and developing national competencies in desalination and modern water technologies. The station includes a pilot desalination unit and specialized laboratories that enable students and researchers to apply the practical aspects of academic coursework, carry out graduation projects, and test solutions and technologies relevant to the water sector.
The station has already begun supporting educational and research activities, while also fostering collaboration across academic departments and enabling the formation of specialized research groups focused on developing innovative solutions and technologies that advance sustainability in the water sector.
The operation of the station marks a strategic step toward building a research environment more closely connected to industrial applications and sector needs, creating opportunities to develop technological solutions that support water sustainability and strengthen the integration between academic knowledge and practical application, in alignment with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
